America has many holidays in celebration of some event or person. None are more unified or important to all Americans than July 4th. To me, this is the holiday that cemented us as a unified people and nation. I think of all the challenges we face as an ever-changing society - the turmoil and acts of terrorism around the world today. I feel it is especially important that we take this day to enjoy family and friends, but also to reflect on how lucky we all are to be part of a free and independent society.
Having grown up in the great white north of Minnesota, one of my great memories was my hometown always holding the largest parade in the state, along with the carnival coming to town. Friends I had not seen in a long time and close childhood friends would all congregate and celebrate the 4th of July. These are great memories for me. Now I also celebrate the great memories to come.
Happy Independence Day, America! Please enjoy your 4th of July holiday safely with friends and family!
